The History of Benzinga

What is publicly documented about a financial media company, and how to tell documented fact from retelling.

Why this history matters

Benzinga is a financial media and data company. Its story is useful to readers because it sits at the point where financial news moved from print and broadcast to the web, and where readers now have to judge many fast-moving, commercially funded sources.

What this edition publishesThe one date we publish is the founding year, 2010. We add further milestones only when we can cite a primary source for each.

What counts as documented

We treat three kinds of material as documentation, in this order:

  1. The company's own publications, such as its website and official announcements.
  2. Public records and regulatory filings, where they exist.
  3. Contemporary coverage from established news organizations.

Anything that appears only in forums, social posts, or unsourced profiles is not published as fact.

How we write a milestone

Each timeline entry has a date, a one-line event, a short explanation, and a link to its source. If sources disagree, we say so rather than choose one quietly.

What is not covered yet

This page does not yet cover ownership changes, product launches, or leadership. We have not found enough citable material to publish them responsibly. When that changes, the timeline on the home page and this article are updated together, with the date.
